If you’re like me, and you’re constantly looking for inexpensive ways to have fun or explore then i’ve got you, because this post highlights two places in Lagos you can visit without breaking the bank.
For those that have gotten to know me this past year, this post has been a long time coming.
I am constantly talking about visiting some place or the other but not until recently have I gotten around to actually doing that – We plan and God plans but God is the best of planners, right?
Anyways, back to the post.
If you are into Arts, the Nike Arts Centre Located at No. 2, Elegushi Beach Road, Lekki is the place to visit in Lagos.
I am not even going to front, I am not the most knowledgeable about arts, I am however an avid art lover and I have always admired and respected those that create amazing works of art.
The story of the founder and owner of The Nike Art Centre – Nike Davis-Okundaye (asides my love for exploring as well as supporting women doing great things) was one of my motivations for visiting the Art center.
With not more than a primary school educational backgrond, she has carved a niche for herself as a well known Artist.
The Art Centre consists of The Art Gallery as well as a Textile Museum.
From the entrance we were instructed to avoid taking direct pictures/videos of the paintings.
But we were able to sneak in a few pictures and video clips from our visit.
I was a little worried that I was going to get overwhelmed going through all of the Artworks. With thousands of Artworks to peruse in the multi-storey building, it is so easy to get lost in the euphoria of it all.
It is interesting to note that all the artworks present in the gallery are by Nigerian Artists.
Before leaving, we bumped into the founder/owner on her way in whilst taking pictures of the entrance, but we couldn’t get a hold of her to talk a bit about the Artworks which was a bummer.
Things to note before visiting Nike Art Centre:
1. Entrance is free
2. You are allowed to take pictures with the Art work as background but not of the Art work itself
3. The Artworks are available for sale
Our next stop was the Lekki Arts and Crafts market (Aka Jakande Market.
It is just a couple of minutes away from the Nike Arts Centre. I had heard so much about the place, especially how most of the things sold there were hand-made as well as inexpensive.
We were able to get two bags and a couple of jewelry at what I like to call well bargained prices.
Be sure to check out other details from our visit in the video above.
Have you been to these places? Include what I missed out by sharing your experiences below.
